Meisjesbesnijdenis of vrouwelijke genitale verminking (vgv) is een vorm van lichamelijke mishandeling. Het is een gebruik waarbij uitwendige geslachtsorganen van meisjes, waaronder de clitoris, worden besneden of verwijderd.
Wat houd besnijdenis in?
Bij een besnijdenis haalt de uroloog een deel van of de hele voorhuid van de penis weg. Een besnijdenis heet ook wel circumcisie. We doen in het UMCG alleen besnijdenissen als daar een medische reden voor is.
Hoe lang duurt een besnijdenis operatie?
De ingreep duurt 20-30 minuten. Bij de operatie wordt de voorhuid verwijderd en worden er rondom oplosbare hechtingen geplaatst aan de basis van de eikel. Deze hechtingen lossen meestal na 7 dagen op en hoeven dus niet verwijderd te worden. Na besnijdenis is de eikel meestal onbedekt.
